Fourth (4th) of July, 2014

by | Jul 3, 2014 | Blog

The Declaration of Independence was written on July 4th, 1776, thereby making our nation 238 years old tomorrow.  We have many problems in our country, of which high unemployment is one, albeit getting better than it was in 2008 when The Great Recession began.  Our recovery from this recession has been slower than anticipated and much of that is due to technology filling jobs as well as pushing some jobs offshore.  Many jobs have been eliminated such as manufacturing positions.  Other jobs have been filled by the illegal immigrant population, which only increases daily.

That said, the United States of America is still the best option for sustained employment in the world today.  Our country has a wide variety and range of jobs available.  But don’t take my word on the subject; go see for yourselves.  Visit www.indeed.com and play around with the “what” and “where” boxes to see exactly how many open positions are out there.  You might have to relocate to where the work is, or you may have to pursue additional education to qualify for the work.  But work is out there.

Our country has economic issues with taxes and income inequality and equal gender pay, but at least we do have work.  Is it perfect?  No.  But we are the closest country to perfection that exists.  In spite of our tax situation, we do not have hyper-inflation or deflation.  Our money may become flawed, but for the current time being, you can work and earn money that will buy you life’s necessities and even luxuries.

What’s the catch?  You must be willing and able to work, you must be prepared to work and you must perform.  But the fact that our country has these favorable conditions, regardless of our flaws, speaks to how great a country in which we live.  And our country has survived a war for independence, a civil war and two world wars, aiding other countries in their conflicts like Korea, Viet Nam, Afghanistan and Iraq.  We have been around for 238 years.  We have lived through the Industrial Revolution and we are engaged in the current Technology Revolution.

Our country has its flaws, no doubt.  Those flaws are disguised as Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Illegals and any other political group of which you can think.  But our flaws are inherent in our humanity.  People are not perfect.  Romans 3:10 tells us that no one is righteous and Romans 6:23 says that we have all sinned.  Those actions make for a precarious and explosive society.

However, our Founding Fathers were able to conceive of a society in which we would have a chance as long as we were open and willing.  This website is all about being prepared for those chances and opportunities and giving your best.

Happy 4th of July everyone!
