Remember

You got the job that you were hoping to get or you got a job, period. You may be ecstatic or you may just be happy to be employed. One of the most important aspects of your job search happens after your search is completed. When your search has ended, remembering what you did to get new employment is crucial. You will want to remember every positive aspect of your search in order to repeat the good down the road and to forget the negative.

Why is having a good memory of your job search experience important? There will come a time when you are searching for a job once again unless you retire. When you are involved in that next job search, the confidence of knowing that you can do it because you have done it before becomes crucial to your performance.

You will want to remember how many resumes that you sent out, how many contacts that you made (I am talking approximate numbers here) and if you can, what questions were asked of you during your phone screens or face to face interviews.

But the most important aspect of your memories will be how you felt when the job was offered to you, when you accepted the job and closed the deal. Remember how you went in to your former employer (for those of you who had a job) and gave your notice. Remember working your notice and the freedom that you probably felt to be going to a new opportunity. There are few feelings that compare, at least professionally speaking.

Remember your first day at work on your new job. Remember any good nervous feelings that you may have felt as you tried to fit in and learn the names and significance of those around you. All these memories add up to the fact that you have travel this road before and that you CAN do it; you can travel it again.
